Google Pangkas 200 Employees in the Global Business Division

Hasanah.id – Google is back to terminating employment (layoffs) of hundreds of employees. This time, as many as 200 employees who were in the global business division of the company affected by the efficiency policy.

Google said that the reduction in the number of employees is part of organizational adjustments to increase the effectiveness of work across teams.

“This step aims to encourage greater collaboration and expand our ability to serve customers quickly and effectively,” said a GOOGLE Spokesman.

The affected division includes a team that handles cooperation with partners and advertisers, which were previously part of Google’s global business unit.

This policy is in line with the ongoing efficiency trends among large technology companies. A number of companies chose to divert the budget from traditional operations to the development of data centers and the development of artificial intelligence (AI).

This layoffs add to the length of the list of labor trimmers carried out by Google in the last two years.

In January 2023, the parent company Alphabet Inc. announced a reduction of around 12,000 employees globally or around 6 percent of the total workforce. While in April 2025, hundreds of employees in the platform division – which included Android, Pixel, and Chrome – were also affected by restructuring.

A similar phenomenon also occurs in other technology companies. Meta, the parent Facebook, has reduced around 5 percent of employees with the lowest performance in early 2025.

Microsoft also cut around 650 employees from the Xbox unit in September 2024. On the other hand, Amazon and Apple also implemented similar policies in several divisions, including digital services and product development.

Until now, Google has not provided information related to the potential for additional layoffs in the future or the direct impact of this policy on the company’s global operations.
